Alleluia! Christ is Risen!
The Easter Vigil takes place on Holy Saturday and begins around the new fire as we light the Paschal Candle and proclaim, "Christ our Light!" We then gather in prayer and expectation as we hear of God's saving work throughout history read to us, first from the Old Testament. Then the lights come on, the organ plays and we sing "Glory to God in the highest!" as we rejoice in the Resurrection of Christ, the triumph of love, light and life - the victory of God.
After hearing the Gospel account of the first Easter we move to the Font and baptize new Christians into the Easter Faith, the Christian Faith, and renew our own Baptismal promises before celebrating the First Mass of Easter.
